Reaching the River Towns and Rural Counties

Eastern Iowa runs from the Quad Cities suburbs to small towns spread along the Mississippi and the county roads inland. Distance is the variable here: in the river cities a crew is close, while a farmhouse in rural Jackson or Clinton County takes longer to reach. We answer live around the clock and schedule an exact arrival time within 60 minutes of your call, and for the more remote addresses we give you a straight estimate of travel time rather than a promise we cannot keep. What never changes is the standard of the death cleanup and decontamination itself.

What We Clean

  • Unattended death and decomposition cleanup: full death cleanup after a person is found some time after passing, common in rural homes.
  • Suicide and trauma scene cleanup: private, compassionate trauma cleanup so loved ones never face the scene.
  • Homicide and violent crime scene cleanup: thorough crime scene cleanup once investigators release the scene.
  • Blood and bodily fluid cleanup: prompt blood cleanup after accidents and medical emergencies.
  • Vehicle biohazard cleanup: decontamination of cars and trucks after a death, accident, or trauma.
  • Tenant death and rental cleanup: coordinated with landlords and property managers, with documentation for owners and insurers.
  • Drug-related and needle cleanup: safe removal of needles, paraphernalia, and contamination.
  • Hoarding and gross filth cleanup: patient, judgment-free restoration of a home to a safe condition.

Why It Takes Certified Professionals

Blood and bodily fluids can carry bloodborne pathogens including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV, and ordinary cleaning products do not neutralize them. Contamination also soaks into flooring, subfloor, and walls long after a surface looks clean. ACT Cleaners is veteran-owned, has restored more than 800 scenes over 25 years, and holds a BBB A+ rating. Our technicians are IICRC-certified for trauma and crime scene work, follow the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030), wear full PPE, and verify every job with ATP testing. And no one who loved the person should have to be the one who cleans up.

How Death Investigation Works in These Counties

Iowa does not use coroners. Across Scott, Clinton, Muscatine, Jackson, Cedar, and Jones Counties, each has an appointed county medical examiner, a licensed physician, who investigates sudden, violent, and unexpected deaths under Iowa Code 331.802 and Iowa Administrative Code 641-127, with support from the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner. The examiner and local law enforcement handle the investigation and the deceased; the biohazard cleanup of the property afterward falls to the family or owner. ACT Cleaners never enters a scene until it is released, and then we coordinate access so you are not asked to be present.

Help With the Cost

Most families across eastern Iowa pay little or nothing out of pocket. Homeowner’s insurance commonly covers biohazard and trauma cleanup, and we bill your carrier directly. When a violent crime is involved, the Iowa Crime Victim Compensation Program may help on top of insurance. Run by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office and funded by penalties paid by offenders, it lists crime scene cleanup among its covered expenses for eligible victims, paid after insurance, with limits set by category. Reach the program through the Attorney General’s Victim Assistance Section at 515-281-5044. We will not overstate what a program covers.

Eastern Iowa Cleanup: Common Questions

What towns does your Eastern Iowa service cover?

We cover the Iowa side of the Quad Cities and the eastern river region, including Bettendorf, Clinton, Muscatine, Camanche, DeWitt, Maquoketa, West Liberty, and Eldridge. Davenport, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Dubuque have their own pages. Call (888) 477-0015.

Do you cover the smaller towns, not just the cities?

Yes. The smaller river and county-seat towns are exactly who this regional service is for. We give an honest arrival window based on your specific location.

How is a death investigated in these Iowa counties?

Each county has an appointed medical examiner, a physician, who investigates sudden and unexpected deaths under Iowa Code 331.802, not a coroner. The cleanup of the property afterward is the family’s responsibility, which is what we handle.

Does insurance or Iowa crime victim compensation cover it?

Often, yes. Most homeowner’s policies cover biohazard and trauma cleanup, and we bill the carrier directly. The Iowa Crime Victim Compensation Program lists crime scene cleanup as a covered expense for eligible victims, paid after insurance.
