Corpus Christi Crime Rates: Exploring the Stats

Corpus Christi is a beautiful place to live. The weather in Corpus Christi is perfect, and the people are nice. Unfortunately, living in Corpus Christi means that you are more likely to be the victim of a violent crime than most other places in America. In this blog, we will explore some statistics associated with crime rates in Corpus Christi Texas, and see what needs to change for these numbers to go down.

The crime rates in Corpus Christi are much higher than the state average. The FBI’s Uniform Crime Report for 2016 says that there were 12,341 crimes reported in Corpus Christi Texas. This was a 30% increase compared to 2015 (which had an 18,380 crime rate). In 2021 the crime statistics are predicted to increase again.

What does this mean for Corpus Christi Texas residents? Most importantly, it means that the opportunity for crime is higher in Corpus Christi than in other places in America. In contrast with states like New York and California, where there are more crimes, they’re not as violent or aggressive. We should focus on what we can do to continue making Corpus Christi a great city to live and work in and that starts by creating programs that reduce crime, especially any violent crime and property crimes. Property theft in Corpus Christi, TX is up 15% between the years 2015-2016 in contrast to property theft nationwide, which is only at a rate of 16%.

In the last year, there were 42 murders in Corpus Christi per a recent report. That’s more than double what it was only a decade ago: 22 homicides between 2007 and 2008. While these numbers are higher than they used to be, we can’t say that this is an epidemic of violence or crime like some other cities (Chicago, Los Angeles). This is why one familiar local businessman has begun helping some homeowners who need crime scene cleanup. That is because the aftermath of a crime scene is dangerous and poses health risks that must be handled as a biohazard.
